With Apologies For Last Year...
At the time, I did not know that Pierre was an out-of-the-closet homosexual.
This is my letter to him this year.
Hi Pierre,
As you may or may not know, a year ago at this time I had sent you an email regarding the 2011 MM-aRch Madness Tournament, its resulting finalists, and my utter disgust toward them. My comments were harsh and cut-throat. I now realize that my verbal berating, and subsequent, albeit unintentional, homosexual bashing was unwarranted, unfounded, and, quite frankly, unacceptable. I was in a low place a year ago. I was drinking excessively and my life was in somewhat of a downward spiral. And the results of last year’s tournament sent me into a raging frenzy that I thought I’d never snap out of.
Well, 1 year later, I’m proud to say that the tide has seemingly changed. The greater city of Philadelphia and its corresponding suburban towns redeemed themselves ten-fold. The Foo Fighters were pitted against Pink Floyd in 2012’s final. Fences were mended between my personal relationship with your station and I. I’m still drinking. But at least now it’s not in an anger-filled fury.
As a quick recap without digging up the past too much, last year’s finalists were Linkin Park and Aerosmith. Linkin Park took the “crown.” Remember that shit? Linkin Park consecutively took down Metallica and the Foo Fighter for their place in the finals, while Aerosmith pulled the trifecta and handed losses to Pink Floyd, Queen, and Tool. What a bag of shit. You better believe that I protested WMMR for a short time, while I let my wounds heal and tried to forget this unprecedented turn of events.
But, let’s not focus solely on the past. It’s a new year. And with that, a new tournament. I’ll admit—I was weary as the tournament started. If another band like Linkin Park won this thing—or, worse, if Linkin Park repeated as champ—you’d have likely have had a death on your hands. But I listened. Pretty intently. What I heard pulled me off the ledge.
I’ve used almost every public forum to voice my opinion of Pink Floyd over the past 10-12 years. I think, quite honestly, that they are about as close to a perfect band as we’ve seen in rock n’ roll history. I’ve seen Roger Waters and 2 separate Pink Floyd cover bands over the last year a half. Their music kicks the balls off any of the shit that comes out nowadays. However, there are always outliers in every factually sound situation. In this case, one of them is clearly the Foo Fighters. In November of last year, I was given the privilege of seeing these bastards tear the roof off of the WF Center. Jesus God. Talk about rock n’ roll, man. It’s such a breath of fresh air when we’re constantly pummeled with the filth that passes for main stream music in our modern world. And, Christ—they even started their encore by covering Pink Floyd’s “In The Flesh?” It was almost as if some divine intervention was making up for last year’s tournament by merging my two worlds of rock n’ roll solely for my personal satisfaction, and in such an awesome wave.
So, I owe a bit of an apology to you, Pierre, to your station and to the city of Philadelphia. In my drunken spitfire, I forgot that we are all owed a second chance, even if that second chance was to make up for voting one of the worst bands in music history as its polar opposite. But even at that, it’s not that my hate for Linkin Park sent me over the edge—although it totally did—it’s just that the manner in which they won was total horseshit. But, I’m over it. MMR and I are buddies again. Sorry for the insults last year, Philadelphia.
See you guys on July 14th.
